Object-oriented development is much more than developing a class model - it now embraces the full lifecycle of system development - business process analysis, use case requirements, dynamic models, component and deployment, system management, non-functional requirements, user interface design, testing, maintenance etc.

Enterprise Architect is a comprehensive UML analysis and design tool, covering software development from requirements gathering, thru the analysis stages, design models, testing and maintenance. EA is a multi-user, Windows based, graphical tool designed to help you build robust and maintainable software. It features flexible and high quality documentation output. The user manual is available online.

Floating licenses are suitable for companies who wish to automate the management of EA registration keys, providing the facility to administer the licenses via the Sparx Enterprise Key Store. This is a free service with the purchase of floating licenses and can be downloaded from the registered users section of the Sparx Systems Website.

The Sparx Systems Key Store application is used to administer floating license keys. The first step in making a floating license key available is for the key administrator to create a network folder to store the floating license key file. This folder and the file generated by the Key Store application which contains the keys need to be installed on a Windows, Wine or Novell based file system.

The Key Store application allows the key administrator to defined two different modes of operation: one mode is with an auto check-in and check-out facility (which requires EA version 5.0 build 768 or higher to operate). The other mode of operation allows the administrator to define a time limit for each floating license key; this time limit should be set according to the user's needs. After this pre-set time limit has passed, the key will expire and automatically be returned to the Key Store, making the key available for other users. Each time a user utilizes EA and has access to the network file location containing the key store file; the time limit on the key is extended to the original time defined by the key administrator.
