I'd really like to press once and leave.

Double sided printing works great. The scanning, copying and faxing is good every time and at a great speed. I made a great choice when I chose this printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light Duty Only While all the functionality is very helpful while it works, after a couple years of use it has begun to fail consistently. The majority of prints/copies attempted on this machine now fail and jam. It's begun wrapping paper around the fuser and glues the paper to itself with toner. So while it makes lovely little decorative scrolls it's no longer a functioning printer or copier. This is also a fire hazard as the fuser is the part that gets hottest in the printer. Overall it's a decent machine just be wary of working it too hard as it will fail after too much use. Great for personal and low intensity small business, but if you have to print large amounts of daily paperwork look for a more hardy model.

I have had Brother printers for many years now because I once owned a computer sales and service operation and from my experience I believe Brother products are hard to beat in terms of reliability and features.

I Installed a driver for an older model brother printer and it seem to print more reliably but it took nearly a dozen tries to find another one that worked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Happy I am a Notary Loan Signing Agent. When this printer works right it’s great. I’ve had it just a few months and have had several problems. The latest one is that it stops printing after 5 pages. I am not a tech person so I’ve tried to find someone to fix it for me but so far no luck. I started out with a Brother DCP-8110DN, which I still have as a back up. That one still works as it should. The only drawback is that it is not a dual tray printer that can print legal/letter mixed documents. I am using Page Separator software to get around that problem, but it adds time to my preparation. I need help or a new printer!!!

It cannot do legal and standard printing together when I get a mixed file to print even though Brother claims that it will.

It worked great in the beginning, but after about 3 months it started printing spots. I cleaned it and it worked fine for 1-2 large jobs. The spots came right back. This last time I cleaned it, it printed even worse, with streaks this time. It’s past the warranty for a new drum and the part is very expenseve.

Drivers are solid, no issues. One set covers all our OS. Software (fax, scan... is solid, no issues. No issues during installation, or after. Touchscreen is relatively large, so not an issue for those with big fingers. This model has a larger platen, which is nice. Simply a pleasure to install & use. It works.

Gotta choose which type you want to use. That means I can't print from my laptop wirelessly if I have my PC set up to print from it via ethernet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High capacity toner cartridge does NOT fit Brother, and retailers, state that the printer can use the TN850 high yield toner cartridge. There's even a factory sticker on the top of the printer that says this, encouraging the user to buy that particular cartridge. But this is false. There is a small plastic tab on the high yield cartridge that prevents it from fitting the machine. The printer functions well, but don't expect to be able to use the high yield toner cartridge. If you buy the TN850, you will end up returning it.

Although I don't use it to scan much, I have one and my assistant has one, and she loves it, and I do too. I also like that, unlike Lexmark/Dell you can use non-Brother toner. It makes the cost of printing very reasonable.

However I find the scanning feature clumsy. Instead of just saving to pdf, naming the file and folder, the scanner makes you have to stop to name the file and folder before hand. For a busy office time matters and it is very annoying and time wasting. I do not find the Printing as crisp as my old HP. I would have returned it but my it guy took too long to set it up and the time had passed. I am not happy

I think this because the rollers are a little too sensitive and they gran some toner on the parts to be copied or scanned. I do not think this problem is due to any dust.

However, scanning function disconnects with desktop computer every time there is a Windows software update and other times for no apparent reason!! Wish the unit was a little quicker with sending faxes and wish it would automatically acknowledge successful faxing delivery on touch screen. New user so time will tell as to durability.

Along with this, I got additional perks I hadn't thought about including double-sided scanning and wireless access from multiple computers and my I-phone. It's quick to both scan and copy. It's also very quiet. So quiet that I'm often not sure whether the job completed because I didn't hear anything. There are lots of configurable options (ex. copy sizing) and you have the option to save those configurations for repeated use. The print quality is really good too. I did have an issue configuring this printer initially because I first tried to attach an older ink jet printer to the same newly purchased computer first. When trying to configure the older ink jet printer, files were uploaded that conflicted with the configuration of this new Brother device and the uninstall process for this older printer files did not remove the conflict. I contacted Brother support and they directed me to the problematic file so that I could remove it. Thereafter, there were no issues using my Brother device. This older ink jet printer was not advertised to work with the much newer operating system on my new computer. I really appreciated the additional support Brother gave me to resolve this issue.

No instruction on removing the previous Brother software first, so I installed over. Install # 2 after removing the previous software. Still no Windows 10 drivers. We all have windows 10 now. The 3rd install online with Brother to get the current drivers. Still a problem with the installing computer being hung up by the printer. Solution was to shut off the printer when not printing. I don't have days of free time to install a printer. Unsatisfactory.

I am happy with the printer. The only complaint I have is that the wifi printing does not always connect and it is often slow to receive data from the ipad and apple computer.

At this point I am only able to scan to a USB and I know there are other options available. I am overall pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Easy to Use Printer This printer was literally plug-and-play. My old printer was a Xerox and you had to be a network engineer to get it on the network. This printer was as simple as plugging in the network cable, power cable, and printing. All the features on this printer work exactly as advertised. Unfortunately, it is a little slower than the Xerox, but so much less hassle that it is totally worth a slight loss of printing speed.

Finally, gave out and bought this one 2 months ago. Easy to set up, and up and running in 15 minutes from the time I opened the box. I expect this to last at least 5 years. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Prefer the older model We had a Brother MFC8480DM which was fantastic, but repair parts were going to be more then a new machine, so we just purchased a new one. Problems from day one. Print quality was not clear out of the box, had to call for tech support and another download fixed the majority of the issues, however, we still get debris on some prints. One thing that continues to irritate is the printer loses connectivity every day. We have to turn off our computer at the end of each work day and in order for it to print the next day, we have to unplug the cord and plug it back in. There are no new updates that need to be done, it is frustrating.

The nearest 'authorized repair shop' was 40 miles away, had no communication unless hounded, and took more than a month to finally resolve by eventually replacing the unit. By this point I had already purchased a non-Brother replacement which is working great (HP is apparently the way to go), and this thing is now a counterweight to a wobbly table.

I think it will definitely meet the needs of my small law office. On the down side, I did have to work with Brother warranty support because my original 5900 froze within 90 days of purchase and could not be restarted. On the plus side Brother sent a warranty replacement (refurbished) within the week. This was an inconvenience for me but I consider it to have been resolved satisfactorily.

Called the support line 3 times to be told to restart the computer , etc. I can’t do that everyone I need to scan. I do taxes & don’t have the time to constantly restart my computer everytime I want to scan something. I returned it. I was hoping to have the scanning problem resolved. The support line was of no use what so ever.

Great paper capacity with even the default cartridge. Toner cartridge has excellent ink capacity and the Drum has excellent life before replacing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This machine steals ink This machine steals your ink. I have been tossing away perfectly good ink cartridges because this machines tells me I'm empty. It uses a page counter system to tell you how much ink is left and will just stop working once it reaches that count forcing you to replace the cartridge before it will work again. I did a quick youtube search and learned how to by pass the counter and basically reset it. But I have printed well over 500 pages since it told me it was out of black in and have not had any issues. I have wasted hundreds of dollars on wasted ink.

It is on the network as a network computer so all the computers can use it. The different options are very easy to use, the different functions are super easy to use, and for plain printing, this is the best printer I have owned. 2 days ago I printed a bunch of records. I had to fill the paper tray twice. A full ream or more in about a half hour. This thing wasn't even breathing hard. My advice is to buy this. It is by far the best printer I have ever owned.

Bought these over DCP's for the PC-Fax receive feature. Very disappointed that that the software does not play nice with our windows10 machines. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. This weekend 47 faxes went to storage in the Brother and now must be printed and scanned as they cannot be pushed to the PC. This problem happens far too frequently and there is no rhyme or reason as to why. I have been trying to get these things to work for 3 months including many hours on the phone with brother support. Time to find another way to get faxes into a digital format without printing and scanning them. I'm sorry I bought these brother MFC printers.

We have not gotten one crisp print yet. I have done the troubleshooting and tried calling support. I don't know if the machine, drum or toner included are defective or what the situation is but I know it is not good. I cannot use this for my business.

This is my 5th all in One Brother printer, my other models were mostly 8710 all in ones. I mainly use the scan feature which is improved, and the touch screen is easy to understand. I receive invoices 24/7 with no issues. Prints fast and clear, and I can use the same toner from the 8710, hopefully the same Drumm because I had just bought it before the last printer had a more expensive issue that I feel was not worth fixing. I don't need color, so this is what I went with. Brother is a good quality product.

Regardless of the source of the (very) expensive toner cartidges and drums, the quality deterioriates to the point of unreadiability well prior to what should be the end of the useful life of the cartridge / drum.

Small, compact size, but holds enough paper you don't have to stop what you're doing to fill the paper tray. Clean copies, and the duplexing is fine. For a small office, this is a perfect machine.

So, when I needed a second printer, I initially tried to buy another. Amazon search said that printer had been "replaced" by the 5900DW and I think Brother hit a home run with this one. For LESS than I paid for the other printer, I get more speed / one-feed-double-sided-scanning / lightning fast / super quiet. Purchased July 2017 so it hasn't been very long, but thrilled with this machine so far. I am not even considering any other printers anymore (sorry HP; you had your chance).

The L5900DW is a cut above them in both duplex scanning and the actual improved design of the scanner feed mechanism. I do quite a bit of scanning and this new machine almost never pulls multiple pages as the prior Brother MFC did, and it has yet to jam in over 2 months of heavy scanning use. Print quality and great and the Control Center 4 software interface provides more flexibility over CC3.

It prints dots on the pages and so far customer support has me clean the drum each time, I've gotten two new toner cartriges, a new drum, then a rebuilt printer. It is still happening and my warranty is running out.

Instead of 1-touch fax numbers we are manually dialing 10 digit #'s each time. Saved #'s takes more clicks to find, I might as well just dial the fax #. Mis-dialing fax #'s all the time, even though we input the correct fax #. One of these days, we're going to violate health HIPPA rules for sending confidential faxes to wrong #'s. Spits out blank pages in between received faxes with just the top line. Digital display is worthless. Punch in 8 & it shows 5, etc. Copy option does not have enlarge by manual setting, only auto. Print quality is very poor. I'm still unable to connect the SCAN option even though I downloaded the entire program several times & run all the steps. Basically this is not for business use or office use, maybe for home use. I miss all the options on the older versions MFC 8910DW, etc. It was much easier & faster to use buttons then to find thing on a 1 single display. I am very disappointed. This is my 6th Brother printer (different versions & this one is the worst upgraded printer ever. Unfortunately, all my other printers broke down exactly at one year of purchase & since warranty does not cover beyond 1 year, I keep replacing them instead of getting it repaired because labor is more expensive. Hope Brother brings back the older version MFC 8910DW.

This new printer is sturdier than the previous, output is faster, smoother, less noisy, clean printed and scanned copies, etc. The default scan and printing options with programmable shortcuts saves a lot of repetitious button pushing. We really enjoy the upgrade.

They can get it working while they're on the phone, so Brother figures there's nothing wrong with it, but after several hours, same problem.

I highly recommend this printer for a small office. This is used as a main copier, scanner, and fax and also to print tax returns. All computers in the office are hooked up by a wireless connect. Each computer has their own Brother printer plus the WI-FI connection to this new one. I am definitely a satisfied customer.

The only feature I'm not real happy with is the choices and how difficult it is to change were you want your file to go when scanning. I'm not much on having the counter for the scanner either, it is not important for my office. I should be able to decided whether I want the counter on or off.

Printed a test document from each device and the speed of the print was just amazing. The scanning software that comes with the installation disc is easy to use, flexible in the type of output, and the quality of the scan that you want. The 2-sided scanning, when needed, is very fast. I didn't read this in the fact sheet, but it appears to scan both sides at the same time. Very nice. The duplex printing has worked perfectly since purchase. Really an upgrade feature we wanted on a new printer, and this is also a quick print. Only using the 1 paper tray that comes with the printer, but probably will order one of the extra trays soon. We wanted to test this out for a month or so, and it definitely is a keeper.

In fact, we bought this new "throw away" unit for less than the cost of fixing the old one. We decided that we could use a lighter weight machine since we do so much less paper related activity than we used to. We're down to almost zero paper use. The reason I do not give it 5 stars is because I have not been able to figure out how to set up the default scan settings so that I do not have to manually input them each time (resolution, color vs b/w, etc). It doesn't seem to be doable. If I'm mistaken, I would love to be contacted by support. Would I buy this product again? Probably so.

It is fast, quiet, easy to use, easy to connect to Wi-Fi, and versatile. Other Brother MFC machines perform the same tasks, but we chose this one because it had better reviews and looked like it might be more heavily constructed. It still isn't as heavy as our 10 year old Brother MFC 8660DN that is still going strong at 55,000 copies, but it is twice as fast and half as loud - a winner!

This MFC-L5900DW was upgrade from my 7 year Brother printer and it has been a month. I was impressed the features that it was brought in and the speed that it brings with the quite sound. I have more than 10 devices connected to this printer and I never shutdown once or connectivity issue. My devices include Google cloud print, remote printing capabilities, mac and Windows and it worked find on these options. The most feature that I was impressed the scaning speed and content managment tool that comes with it or save it to the google drive. The other printer companies may be offering these features. My only suggestion is, for this given price and features, this is amazing. I am fairly techie where I did research before I bought this printer and I am completely satisfied. Remember, any electronics, nobody gurantees 100% but for me, I can't complain about this printer for my heavy usage of this printer.

I selected the L5900DW because of it's superior speed and handling. Not disappointed. It's a workhorse. I am having a problem scanning to Acrobat over WiFi. It creates only one page. Solve it by plugging printer into computer via usb port. but wish that worked better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Brother Printer I have ever had I have used the Brother printers for more than 10 years. MFC-8690DW, MFC-8810DW, MFC-8890DW, MFC-8910DW and some other smaller models. And this one MFC-L5900DW is the best so far. It's very quiet, superior print quality, duplex features work like a charm, very nice control panel and easy to change settings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice General Purpose 2-Sided Laser Printer Bought the MFC-L5900DW printer, along with an additional LT6500 Tray, to handle printing apartment leases on legal size paper, along with general office printing. Everything works great with one exception. If the printer sits idle for several days, toner specs begin showing-up on printed pages. Several times I had to follow the instructions for cleaning the drum with cotton swabs to clean-up my printed pages. I am hoping with time, this issue will go away.

I very much like the fact it can scan, copy, and fax two sides at once, surprised how quickly that makes the jobs go. Can use an USB drive to save to or utilize files from. Customer Service has also been most helpful. Would purchase again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick and Efficient I love the printer, dual tray, but have not been able to print from a PDF and have it auto select the paper size on mixed documents. I am not sure if this has something to do with my computer running Windows 10 or what. I can place a mixed sized document in the feed and it works but not from a PDF. Any help would be appreciated.

Over the years I've had many brands of copiers and printers, and about 8 years ago, settled on Brother as the most dependable, cost efficient, and reliable by far over the competition. My MFC L5900DW is much faster than anything I've owned before, and so far has been exceptional in every way

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far we love it We have a small office and for some years using Brother MFC 8690 (or some number like that). This machine is so much faster, quieter, and smarter. Installation at first was easy but mid-way, we definitely needed Brother support - which was great (one of the reasons btw that we decided to go with Brother again). Problem with the installation had to do with getting CC4. Turns out it's a glitch which the techs told us -- only after 1 hour with lower level tech who could not help us (though tried her damdest and finally put us through to a senior tech who solved the problem in no time). Plus, this machine is much better looking than previous.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performer for the money The only difficulty we have had is that it won/t scan from the printer. When that is attempted it gives an error message suggesting the printer is not connected to the computer. The work around is to scan using the computer as the control and the supplied Brother utility. Since this works it is obvious that the computer and printer are connected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT multi-function machine This machine works very well. It was VERY easy to set up, does not take up a lot of space, and is very reliable. We have had the printer for a few months (we have a small office of less than 25 people and it scans quickly, makes clear copies, and there is almost no time to wait for a print. It set up wirelessly with all our computers, including old ones running outdated Windows versions. The scanning app (PaperHost) works perfectly everytime and is fast. The price is very reasonable on Amazon and it arrived quickly (2 days and free with Prime). I highly recommend this printer!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very fast, quiet, and useful I bought this MFC because my old Brother MFC would not work fully with Windows 10. I had it for at least 10 years, and it worked perfectly, so I figured another Brother MFC would be a good idea. This one has a great deal of functionality, such as a "scan directly to email" button on the front panel which is incredibly useful, plus duplex printing and scanning, etc. I really like it. We are using it as our network printer on our home network with about 5 computers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inconsistent This is my second Brother MFC printer. The first worked perfectly for abut eight years and it was so easy to use and so reliable. Lightning hit our house and we lost it. This printer is so sensitive. I have no idea why sometimes it just decides to stop working. We have to reinstall it from at least one of our network computers each week or two. And too many features don't work at all from the computer (like our first but we manage by operating from the printer controls. When it works, it's great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Meets My Needs I just replaced a 7-year-old Brother MFC-8480DN with a new Brother MFC-L5900DW, and I'm most pleased with its build and features (especially duplex scanning). I print mostly black-and-white text and line drawings, and I am very happy with this product's print quality. I rate the MFC-L5900DW itself with 5 stars. However, its 724-page User Guide is not available in a format that can be annotated with highlights and notes, and it's not searchable. Rather, it's available online and in a downloadable locked PDF. Since this is unacceptable to me, I lowered the MFC-L5900DW's rating by 1 star.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from flimsy, temperamental machine first machine needed to be returned as ADF (auto document feed did not work. New machine has same problem sporatically. Materials seems very cheap. To perform any function, there are numerous pushes to the arrow until one achieves the desired results. Alternatively, one can set up "shortcuts" but you then need a list of your shortcuts so that you can call up the right shortcut!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful MFC This MFC is used for printing payroll checks and for scanning incoming invoices etc. Ie is also used for general printing where color is not needed. It is excellent for use as a copier too. It is much quieter than previous MFC machines both in printing and scanning.

Important: When I was shopping for this machine, I saw at least one review stating the paper trays won't hold legal paper. They DO hold legal paper - you just need to release and extend the back side of the tray.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Overall, this is a great product. Printing speed is fast. It has the capability to print legal and letter size paper from pdf file. Scan is wonderful. You can scan multiple pages and compress into pdf file. A few drawbacks are if printing a large pdf file, if letter paper is empty, it will print on legal and vice versa. If scanning, you must scan either legal or letter as it will not scan legal and letter. The few draw backs make me think I didn’t do my homework before the purchase.

Everything integrates well and love it I can can from the main to my computer. Also with Iphone app can print from my phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good printer for small offices Pros: Fast. Overall well designed with a few flaws. I like the "shortcuts." Sending & receiving is straightforward, unlike some other brand MFCs. The ADF has a large capacity. Envelopes print without creasing, unlike another Brother printer I owned. Cons: Scanner: Scans are almost always crooked, rarely straight. Brother really should fix this! "Shortcuts," which saves scan/fax etc. settings, is a good feature, but setting up a scan for the first time requires changing too many defaults. (I wish the scan default was 300 not 200 and the default could be changed. Although the manual says the factory default is to print a report if a fax is unsuccessful, it does not print failure reports in default mode (Transmission Verification Report set to "Off").

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good features but poor printing quality I had to return my first printer almost immediately as it was printing streaks and blotches on everything. Amazon was wonderful and sent a replacement out immediately with a return label. The replacement unit worked very well for about a month, and now it's starting to do the exact same thing. I would expect this out of an Office Depot discount printer, but not from what is supposed to be a quality unit. It's very intuitive and easy to use and has great features, but all that is pointless if I can't print a clear product.
