Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive ink.One would expect the XXL black ink cartridge to be a more economical purchase than an XL ink cartridge, but there is no data provided by Canon to support that expectation. Granted, it's hard to define exactly how many pages can be expected from a cartridge, because it depends on how many characters will be on the page, are they printed in bold type, etc. However, Canon could tell us precisely how much ink is in each cartridge. How many mgs, or mls, should be something easily known by the manufacturer. Then we could calculate the cost per mg, and see what is the more economical cartridge.In any case, the ink is quite expensive. Over the last five XXL cartridges, it ran me about 3/5 of a shave and a haircut.

Do the executives think that this strategy will build a loyal customer base? I think the results will be negative and counterproductive to a health bottom line. Before making a decision to purchase my next printer,scanner,copier, I will research the cost of ink and any other maintenance requirements. Something I should have done in the first place. Ok buyers beware this problem can be a real serious money drain and can happen regardless of brand or age of the equipment. Good luck and remember to compare all aspects of usage before buying. Shop shop shop.

The ink (especially black ink goes quicker than the laser printers I am used to at work but that is to be expected. You can only fit so much ink in a small container.I print everyday items with the economy (ink saver) setting, and more important documents on higher settings. It's worked out for me. Fortunately, I don't print as much at home so I can make a cartridge last.After installing a new cartridge I run a test print in economy mode and then run the head cleaning and alignment functions, then print a high quality page and have always had crisp clean results.
