The standby ECO850LCD UPS system provides reliable battery backup and AC power protection against blackouts, brownouts, overvoltages, surges and line noise that can damage valuable electronics or destroy data. The 12-outlet 120V battery backup is ideal protection for your home office, media center or professional kiosk, security and small-business phone applications, including computers, routers, printers, HDTVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles, ATMs, security systems and digital signage equipment.
Backup support allows you to work through short power failures and gives you enough time to safely save files and shut down your system in case of a prolonged blackout. Backup time varies according to load, but the ECO850LCD should keep an energy-efficient desktop computer with small LCD monitor powered as long as 38 minutes. During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the replaceable internal battery fully charged, so backup power will always be available.
Six 5-15R outlets provide battery backup and surge protection for your computer, monitor and other crucial components. The other six 5-15R outlets provide surge suppression only for printers, speakers and other desktop equipment regarded as non-essential during a blackout.
By meeting strict EPA efficiency guidelines, this ENERGY STAR-certified UPS system helps you save money and energy. An ECO power-saving option features four switched ECO outlets (three surge-only, one surge- and battery-protected) that turn off automatically when the device connected to the Battery Backup Master Outlet is powered down or in sleep mode. These outlets are recommended for printers, desk lamps and other non-essential peripherals that don't need to be operational all the time.
A 316-joule surge suppression rating protects connected components from the harmful effects of power surges. Dual network data line jacks protect a wired peripheral from dangerous surges on a single 10/100Base-T or dial-up network connection.
This USB port connects the ECO850LCD to a computer running Tripp Lite's free downloadable PowerAlert software to enable safe unattended file saves and system shutdown in case of a prolonged power failure. USB cable is included. Battery independent restart ensures automatic UPS power-up without user interaction after lengthy power outages, even when batteries are expired and require replacement.
Various electromagnetic and radio sources found in virtually every home and business can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. Known as EMI (electromagnetic interference) and RFI (radio frequency interference), this line noise is a common cause of performance problems and can lead to incremental hardware damage, data corruption and audio/video transmission problems. The ECO850LCD incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise so that it won't affect your equipment.
The UPS remains silent in both line and battery backup modes. The alarm sounds only to report low battery, excessive load and fault condition. The LCD touchscreen offers five screens of UPS and site power information when the UPS is operating in either on-line or battery power mode. It displays vital voltage, load and battery data, as well as critical fault status.
The space-saving ABS housing fits on a desktop, shelf or anywhere else convenient to your workstation or home theater.
Tripp Lite ECO Series ECO850LCD is rated4.73 out of5 by60.

Rated 5 out of 5 byCT Morgan from I would buy this product again.I purchased two of these, replacing two aging APCs. I like the information available through the display, since one of these is not connected to a computer. We've had one power outage since I bought the units and both worked flawlessly. My only complaint is minor. I run Linux Mint on my computer but could not find monitoring software for the UPS. No big deal since the on-device display provides all the information needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 byhomeofficetype from Works great when the power goes outI am not a Tech person to go into specs. However, I appreciate that this model has a battery screen indicator so I know whether the battery is functioning. (My previous, older model didn't. Eventually, it started beeping when there was no power outage. This was an 'end of life' sign.) I wish this model had an easily replaceable battery for its own end-of-life, hopefully several years from now. Hence, four stars. Otherwise, convenient number of outlets and arrangement. It's in use daily!

Rated 5 out of 5 by"Farm" Miller from Only had it about 2 weeks and it has already saved my behindThe main reasons for choosing this model were the 12 outlets and the digital display. Yeah, who uses 12 outlets? Not me. But it sure leaves me plenty of room to plug in all of the bricks that I need. And with the digital display, I now know how much power my system is using at any given time. And I know approximately how long my system will run during my next outage. Oh yeah, it'll go out again this summer and I know I'll have time to save everything and shut everything down.

Rated 5 out of 5 byrickcee from Worth every penny +I'm in an area that has had many serious brownouts and momentary outages, enough to reboot electronic devices. I believe the brownouts "fried" my hard drive because it wasn't enough to cue a shutdown. Had to replace it twice. More recently, in thunderstorms, my satellite receiver rebooted many times (it can take a minute or more to reboot), so I plugged that into the UPS. Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 bySpotSpeaker from QuirkyWhen I had 'eco' on, and my laser printer would start, everything plugged into the eco outlets would lose power for about 8 seconds (I'm assuming this is a current spike from the printer starting, and the eco shutdown is a preventative measure). But yesterday morning, after a night of inactivity, the eco outlets would not pass power until I turned off eco. Still appreciate the number of outlets and the other options, and liked the eco feature until yesterday morning.

After you connect everything, the device shows you your wattage and how many minutes it would take to run it down. Also, sound alarm can be turned off without connecting the unit to a computer. I have an older TrippLite model which looks exact same and is about six years old now. It still works and outlasts powe outages here.

Rated 5 out of 5 bycmf from Does a Great Job, When It Does It's Job With My MacWhen I first got the ECO850LCD, it performed flawlessly during at least two power outages. In fact, having my Mac Pro, cablemodem, and router plugged into the UPS, I was able to use the Internet for more than an hour after the power went out during one outage. Within the last few months, however, it appears that Mac OS X updates have somehow inhibited the communication between my Mac Pro and the ECO850LCD. During this period, the Mac Pro doesn't "sense" the ECO850LCD and, consequently, does not shut itself down in response to the amount of power remaining in the ECO850LCD. Instead, the Mac Pro just shuts itself down. I'm hoping that Tripplite will release a software update in the near future to address these evident compatibility issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 byDJ from I should have known betterWhen my Tripp lite UPS needed to be replaced after many years of service I thought I would save a few bucks and get another brand which was cheaper. Needless to say it didn't function as it should and ended up with my computer going down and no backup kicking in to give me time to shut it down properly. So I returned it and got this Tripp lite which is exactly what I should have done in the first place. I love the new LCD functions showing me how much battery is left and how long I can keep the devices running on battery function. Live and learn. Only Tripp lite for me from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 bySpeedbump from We have been very happy with this UPSAdmittedly we don't use this at a UPS, and don't use the automatic shut down or ECO features that would require the USB connection. But the power conditioning has really helped the reliability of our workstations, and keeps system from needing to reboot if there is a temporary power outage. The two times I needed to ask technical support questions (do I need to replace this after a surge: only if it self indicates or is smoking; The caution and load marking indicating too much load on the battery occurs without displaying the load %) they responded within a day and were very helpful. Overall we have about 100 of these across the company and are very happy with them

Rated 5 out of 5 byRunner from Works as Advertised - Solid Performer So FarWork uses TrippLite battery back ups for our workstations and so I have been buying TrippLite over the competitor's products. So far so good. The only thing that is a minus is that the battery is not user replaceable (I think). Then again, when the battery went bad on my other UPS after 4 or 5 years, the battery cost was nearly the cost of a replacement UPS, well, half, but no warranty on the UPS anymore. So, besides the landfill issue, why not replace the whole thing, especially if the warranty is of concern. The good stuff: good warranty (hopefully they honor the terms should it come to that), like the LCD read out (assuming that it is accurate), and plenty of outlets. The "ECO" mode is a nice touch should you be able to take advantage of the feature (if you are willing to have the outlets shut down after a prescribed time). So far, am satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 byWildWilly from You can stifle the audible alarm! At least, that's what appears to be true. I can't claim from experience that it's true but that feature appears when you hit the button on the unit enough times. I mention this because it is a big deal for me. When our power goes off, my old UPS used to beep intermittently, even after I had shut off all equipment plugged into it, until the backup battery went dead. And there was no way to shut the stupid thing up! That took maybe a couple of hours. In the interim, the cats would go crazy & the wife would . . . well, I'll leave that to your imagination. If this UPS indeed does stay silent during a power failure, then I will be utterly ecstatic & will come back here to update my comments. Meanwhile, I've had the unit for only 3 days so it's really not long enough to say anything truly intelligent about it. It claims I'm loading it with 112 watts, that's only about 26% of its capacity, and it would give me 28 minutes of run time if we suffered a blackout, which is really a lot. 26%? Maybe I got too much UPS. The price was right. It was a little less than a replacement of my old UPS would have been from a competitor, whose name I will not mention because I read the guidelines for reviews & actually understood them. Is that a rarity these days? Anyway, it's definitely nice to have 12 outlets. On the battery backup side, I've got only 3 things: my DSL router, my 16"x9" flat panel LCD monitor, and my PC (quad core Intel CPU Dell Optiplex desktop). If that really does add up to only a little over 100W, I guess I'm pretty green. I do have a second computer here that I've been dragging my feet on decommissioning (wiping the hard drive clean) but it's looking like I could plug that in on the battery backup side & this UPS would take it in stride without a hitch. On the non-battery side I've actually got more things plugged up. Power transformer for my portable XM radio home cradle, power transformer for cordless extension phone cradle, power transformer for charger for wireless headset for phone, extension cord to iPod charger (because the iPod USB cable is too short to conveniently reach any outlet anywhere, let alone on the UPS, so despite all warnings not to do such a thing, I plugged an extension cord into the UPS, deal with it). I'll bet the total power consumption of all 4 of these is under 10W. There is a USB cable that came with the UPS. I have not plugged it in. It looks like it's just just barely long enough with hardly an inch to spare to reach from the UPS to any USB port on my system. But it's unlikely I will ever use it anyway. If I'm not physically here using the system, I hibernate it, so if the power goes off while I'm not here, there would be no need for the UPS to notify the PC to shut down. If I am physically here using the system, well . . . ummmnm . . . duh . . . I will notice that the power has gone off & I will . . . oh I don't really have to spell it out, do I? After our next power failure, I'll come back & let y'all know whether it worked properly, whether it beeped, & whatever else I notice. Until then, the best I can say is so far so good.
