Works for us
We had to replace a defective DVI-I monitor with a VGA monitor. This adapter allowed us to use the DVI-I cable so that we didn't have to disassemble the desk and snake a new cable into position to accommodate the new monitor.

C2G DVI Female to HD15 Male
This adapter is fine for the particular use it can handle, connecting DVI-I cable to PC's vga outlet.
There are basically two types of DVI cable and connectors. DVI-D and DVI-I.
DVI-I cable and connectors have 4 extra pins, which carry an analogue signal. The analogue signal is compatible with VGA. This adapter will let a DVI-I connect to and work with VGA socket.
A DVI-D cable/connector is digital only and carries no analogue signal so won't work with VGA no matter what adapter you use.
You can tell DVI-I from DVI-D by looking at the plug. I will have two rows of pins and a flat blade. If there are two pins above and two pins below the blade, then that's DVI-I. If the blade has no pins above and below, that's DVI-D.

C2G DVI Female to Male VGA adaptor not applicable
I ordered a Gefen DVI switcher but could not use it with my VGA/HDMI laptop or LDC projector. After speaking with you representative, I ordered the C2G DVI FEMALE to HD15 VGA MALE VIDEO ADAPTER.
It did not work!! I called Gefen and they stated that the adapters don't work with Gefen switcher signals. So now I've wasted money twice.

Did Not do what I expected
True DVI and VGA are not compatible formats and this device did nothing to help that. I had expected it to convert the DVI signal to a usable VGA signal but it needs to be converted before arriving at the the DVI end or after exiting the VGA end before a VGA device can use the signal. This only allows the two types of cable to be connected.

It didn't work
I hoped to have this adapter run a new Dell second monitor on a Dell desktop running dual displays. The new monitor does not have a DVI input, but does have VGA and HDMI. I was hoping to solve the problem using this product. Unfortunately, the monitor was not able to detect any input on the VGA . I'm back to square 1.

An essential adaptor for a MacBook
Used to connect a MacBook to a large screen TV for computer club members to see the computers images. Images are sharper on a TV than on a projector and screen.

Watch Out!
Make sure that you're converting a digital signal into a digital signal. I bought this item thinking it could convert an analog signal (VGA) to digial (DVI). I was wrong.
