CDW Canada’s 2025 Business Technology Expo (BTEX) Toronto had a packed arena with over 1,500 attendees and 70 companies. This year’s Future Plays theme came to life with pro athlete appearances, racing simulators and even a even a football AI robot.
CDW Canada’s 2025 Business Technology Expo (BTEX) Toronto had the energy of a packed arena with over 1,500 attendees and 70 leading technology companies. This year’s Future Plays theme came to life with pro athlete appearances, racing simulators and even a football fanatic AI robot.
Need to fuel up during the big game? No problem! Attendees were grabbing gourmet half-time snacks before re-entering the stadium. Wearable tools and cutting-edge gadgets were on full display, showcasing how technology is advancing the sports industry and transforming how businesses operate at large.
This year’s BTEX felt more like a full-on immersive experience than a typical expo. Attendees could hear an inspiring session on enterprise-wide AI deployment and be playing a heated game of foosball moments later.
Where tech and sports intersect
One of the event's many highlights was a Formula 1 race car simulator, complete with secure data tracking and real-time feedback. It gave a peek into how pro athletes and teams are using hyper-sophisticated data analytics to track and enhance every turn, jump, sprint, swing or skate. The simulator demonstrated how data-driven performance, both in sports and business, is no longer a nice-to-have, but an essential to match and exceed the competition.
Sports and food go hand-in-hand. To round out the experience, attendees were able to witness and enjoy how technology can elevate game day grub. The event featured freshly-made donuts with one’s face printed on them using AI facial recognition. These personalized and delicious treats are just the tip of the iceberg when considering how emerging technologies can enhance the customer experience.
However, BTEX 2025 was about more than showcasing cool new products, it’s about visualizing a tech roadmap for the future, showcasing how technology can help Canadian businesses, from startups to large enterprises, deliver cutting-edge solutions. The roadmap tracks a journey for CDW Canada customers to stay agile and competitive in an ever-evolving market.
Future plays with hockey legends
BTEX 2025 scored big with appearances from two hockey stars. Darcy Tucker, who spent most of his career playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, was on the ground floor, taking pictures and handing out autographs. Upstairs, Hayley Wickenheiser, four-time Olympic gold medalist for Canada and a trailblazer for women’s ice hockey, engaged with attendees in the Women in Tech area.
The presence of these hockey legends embodied the natural crossover between sports and technology. Innovators in their own field, their winning mentalities are a reflection of what can be achieved through collaboration and relentless drive.
Making an impact with Ampere
Another key highlight of the event was the Ampere (formerly Pinnguaq) kit-packing activity. Ampere is a Canadian not-for-profit organization with a mission to work alongside rural, remote, Indigenous and other communities to support the development of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) skills through innovative technology, art and play.
This year, attendees joined together to assemble 200 Ocean Conservation Kits for Indigenous youth, designed to bridge digital divides and empower learning and community-led innovation in Northern Canadian communities.
Committed to supporting Canadian Indigenous communities, this initiative was an effort to make technology accessible and available for STEAM learning. It’s a testament to CDW Canada’s commitment and dedication to building a future that uplifts and empowers all members of our community.
Women in tech lead the way
The Women in Tech networking session was fundamental to the theme of Future Plays. The session was an opportunity for women from different organizations and generations to connect, engage, expand professional networks and share ideas.
CDW Canada believes that embracing and fostering diverse perspectives and inclusivity is not only the right thing to do but is essential for driving innovation, collaboration and long-term success in our industry. By uplifting one another and creating opportunities for growth, CDW Canada is committed to supporting a tech industry where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
It was clear that BTEX 2025 attendees had one shared goal: advancing technology in their businesses, their communities and their country.
