Previously I only had the router on one side of my home where the cable came in and network connectivity was okay on the opposite side of the house, now it might be better on the opposite side because of this device.

Trying to connect this to a Nighthawk with true tri-band features is futile if the smart connect feature is enabled, as two 5 GHz bands will conflict on one of the radios.

However I did need to add a device to extend my network, so after reading many reviews I selected the Nighthawk X6S EX8000 Extender, partly because the specifications mentioned "easy setup". And thankfully it was very simple. The area poorly covered by my WiFi transceiver is now covered, somehow, at a faster connection speed than the area previously covered by my transceiver was! How? No clue. Don't care. It works great!

The extender was super easy to install and it really is a plug and play device. Recommended for sure

I checked the connections and the app to make sure everything was working properly, it was. It seems as if no one will ever “catch-up with the internet”.

I have the X10 router at one end of the house and this extender at the other end and using it as an access point. No dropped coverage at all and it also handles all of the home automation devices. I have about 75 connected devices and it works perfectly. Awesome Awesome Awsome.

Signal projected from our lodge to our cabin ( across a pond, but signal couldn't make it into the cabin. We added a smaller Netgear extender at the cabin to make signal available inside cabin. Considering all the parameters, extenders are working well!!

I have a large house with three levels and a lot of obstructions for the signal. I added this device to help reach low signal areas of the house, especially far corners of the basement. In those areas the speed went from 12 Mbps to over 100 Mbps. Easy setup, paired with my R7000 router. I would buy again

The single network was less confusing for everyone and the room to room switches fit my need without signal loss. The max speed feature takes advantage of my IS package and has been 90 to 100% of my rated speed on mobile and laptop which is just awesome. Well worth the investment if you need to spread out your range and have full use of your connection speed.

Btw I was using this to improve the performance of my new Nest IQ Camera. You need to put this about half between your router and what your trying to improve. The results are outstanding. I am pretty geeky and I can tell you this works great. I am very happy with this unit. I highly recommend this unit.

I am very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend to a friend.

Overall set up took about 30 minutes or so. The directions provided allowed me to set things up seamlessly. My Netgear mesh works amazingly; my CenturyLink DSL works better than it ever has before. I would recommend Netgear to anyone.

After install reception was full bars even in the garage. I moved the extender a couple of times for the best range but it was able to continuously read the modem at full strength. Worth it

The unit is working flawlessly and reliably. The setup was easy though I recommend using the internet method. My network and the unit would not properly recognize each other until I followed the internet setup instructions. It has been working perfectly reliably for the two months I've owned it and I have a clear, dependable wifi signal to all areas of my residence.

The different name made some devices like Wifi Speakers lose their connection frequently. Other devices connected to the extender probably because the signal was stronger, but the connection speed was much slower. With the Nighthawk, the high speed of my network is preserved and the connection problems are resolved.

I am using it in a guest apartment situation where the actual router is some distance away from where I actually reside. This Messi extender does an excellent job of picking up the Wi-Fi from that router and spreading it out over my entire guest apartment. As with the original extender that I still have, this extender does a great job. I have bought lots of Netgear equipment over the years. It's not perfect, but it suits me just fine. I would definitely purchase again.

The only hangup I had was enabling 5G took some digging and some ingenuity since the FAQ as part of customer support had nothing to go on. Directly going to the extender's IP helped tremendously, I just wish that information was frontloaded.

Used this with a Phicomm K3 Wireless Router that has an App on iPhone and tried to use 'Wireless Extension ' advanced option in Phicomm's app, then WPS on the EX8000. But that seemed to make problems logging back into Phicomm's app again after done (I may not have done things right is possible). What worked for me was using the instructions for EX8000 'Connect With the NETGEAR Installation Assistant' instructions. That's how I ran it for my setup. Good ranges and speed.

This device can be an access point or a mesh extender depending on your needs or whims.If you use the guided setup it's very easy to configure. For those who would rather configure the device manually you'll be happy to know that you have complete control over every aspect of the device. I would recommend perusing the Netgear forums and become familiar with how the extender works and utilizes the available wifi resources (channels and frequencies.I use mine in conjunction with a Netgear R8000 to cover a 2900 sq. ft. home with lots of HVAC duct work between floors.

The primary thing was to make sure that primary wifi network had the same network id name for each of the wifi networks. What I wanted was as I moved around my home that there would be automatic reassignment to the appropriate network. What I wanted and what I was delivered met my expectations. I now have an automatic change of networks without having to manually disconnect and reconnecty. I am very pleased. In addition, this new device as increased the amount of area my network covers with increase band speed.

I couldn't get the system to work off of 1 unified set of wifi networks for both bands but it does manage both on separate networks while managing the traffic of 300,000 hits a month with the Windows server connected to the extender acting as a wireless bridge to the nighthawk router in the living room using the AC signal.

With the smart function it can pick and choose where to put devices depending on their needs. The range it can extend is great. I have smart devices all over my house and in the garage and now I have no connection problems for any devices. I can now sit in my bedroom and stream 4K movies without buffering. Range is incredible without having any range extenders (currently using it in access point mode) but so far it is working as intended. The home is over 5000sq so the stand alone router would not service the entire house and garage. I added the WiFi extender to the 2nd floor and I have full coverage through the entire home. I also have full coverage in the garage. The Extender is very strong and is a breeze to setup. The only issue I have had was attempting to add a second to increase my coverage outside. The second unit seems to cause an issue so I have since disabled the 2nd unit. For additional coverage it is highly recommended and the single SSID works well and is seamless.

Follow the directions and be patient at each step. Some of them take a few minutes to complete, but they will complete as described. Then be sure to reboot ALL of your devices connected to the network. They will then connect solidly to the best source. It has made a significant improvement to my MacPro connection which was running at the opposite end of the house from the AT&T router. Sometimes I find I have to sutdown and restart the WiFi on my iPhone and iPad to connect to the best source as I move about the house, but that is likely more a function of the Apple iOS or my impatience more than the Nighthawk.

Finally someone came out with a tri-band extender. I get full 5g speeds through the extender where normal extenders lose 50% of your speed due to their design. It took a little configuring of the Netgear's settings to get everything set up right, but it has solved our problems!

Our house 'requires' that the modem be in a room a far end of the house - which left the master bedroom at the opposite end - and with both distance & two brick walls between the two - without internet access - thus no phone, Ipad, laptop or Netflix/Apple TV - in the bedroom. With this - we've got GREAT strong reception. End of problem. Despite some initial trouble setting it up - I spoke with Customer Service & they solved the connection problem (a modem glitch basically - NOT due to the Extender and then walked me through set-up to ensure no further issues. MUCH appreciated!

It is not a seamless transition for router to extender but if you start in a location it is fairly good at picking the best signal. I run a house full of WiFi items and this finally brings a signal to everywhere!!!

Might be the ISP in our area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very easy setup!I only have a 2000 sf upper level home, yet there are several walls that are the old style plaster with metal lathe which act like a Faraday cage blocking signal. Once I set this extender up my signal improved over 20dB and provide smooth video streaming. Pricey but for the ability to use the same router SSID it is worth it to me.

I put it on my entertainment center and plugged 3 ethernet cables in from 3 devices to have a steady signal. I am loving it so far, lots faster for all my devices.

This product works perfectly and extends both 2g and 5g signals to 2 desktops, a laptop, 2 TVs and 4 people on mobile devices. Highly recommend.

As a result, the Living/Great Room in the back of the house was not getting a great WiFi signal and was causing a lot of buffering issues whenever we would stream Netflix, Hulu, etc... Adding the Nighthawk Mesh Extender overcame this issue and now our WiFi network works great!

Prior to buying the extender we had spotty WiFi coverage in 2 of the 4 bedrooms and in the living room our TV would constantly lose WiFi. We are in an area that does not have cable. Once the NETGEAR extender was installed, all of our internet issues disappeared. Not only do we get great WiFi in everyone room of the house, we get great signal to our garage below the house and out to the patio area beyond our pool. It is absolutely great.

The extender is a welcomed addition. It's been paired with an X6S router, extending the coverage of my two most frequently used bands. I do experience a drop in connection once-in-a-while, but that's on my provider.The Genie app recognizes that the extender is connected, but doesn't identify exactly which devices are connected to it. I suppose that shouldn't matter if I'm getting peak throughput at the other side of the house, right?

Old wiring in house meant using an over the ac line approach wasn't going to work. MoCa wasn't feasible due to the splitters and lines currently in the house. We already had a very powerful nighthawk router, but it just couldn't pass through 5walls and a giant two stack oven farriday cage... So the best solution was to get an extender more in line with the routers position. The fact that this is also a mesh point means we can move throughout the house without having additional ssids. So far amazing!

It covers more area than the meshes I've tried. It handles more devices than the meshes I've tried. It's UI absolutely gives me more information quickly. It's everything in one. It's more expensive, but worth it. The first time you need something that another router doesn't provide, that's when it's worth it.Everything I've said is compounded if you know what you're doing.

I now have full coverage in all my 2nd floor rooms, as well as our basement room. It has cut out buffering, and so far, no freeze ups. Currently running 23 wifi gadgets with no problem.

This involves numerous ZOOM meetings with coworkers and supervisors. With so many people (including myself) using the internet, my wife often experienced extremely low speeds and choppy reception. After reading about the Nighthawk X6S we decided to give it a try. To our delight it lives up to its advertising. Set up was easy. And now both of us can be online enjoying full internet speeds over 100 Mbps! Thanks Netgear!

The only way I could tell was to use a WiFi analyzer on my phone to analyze the signal strength differences next to the router and the mesh extender. Worth the money.

The room that I needed internet was my refurbished garage that was on the other side of a wall with a brick fireplace. Placed Netgear EX 8000 is the room and was surprise that I received almost full internet coverage. Another surprise was that I did not need to do anything except to plug the extender into the wall outlet. The extender found my internet and meshed with the original internet. Great device. thank you

We have more then 14 devices in our home always streaming so you can imagine the load that it took. Despite that this works wonders, the tricky part is finding a good area within your routers range that can be a good recieving point for the rest of your devices in your home.

The cameras made everything that was wireless run very slow or not run at all. The netgear nighthawk modem router combo just couldn’t keep up. It’s like everything was bottlenecking on a one lane highway. So, I got the mesh extender and placed it upstairs. Now it’s like all devices and the cameras are running a a 4 lane highway with no speed limit! Awesome!

Rebooted a few times initially after letting the firmware update and a few setting changes which required a reboot. Rebooted the Netgear DOCSIS 3.1 modem, then x10 router and then the EX8000 extender in that order allowing everything a couple minutes to sync up and settle down. Seems to be working great. Handles an Xbox plugged in via Ethernet cable playing Overwatch just fine with no noticeable latency.

However, with everyone else being at home I noticed major lags in speed since my home office is on the other side of the house. After putting this extender in the middle, I noticed an immediate difference in speed. Plugging directly into it via Cat7 pushed the speeds to the max. Best investment to increase speeds overall in the entire house.

While installing a remote Wi-Fi operated garage opener found my signal would not reach the garage. It is pretty powerful, giving good connections and speeds to my tv (no lags or buffering) and other devices on the opposite side of the house, except for my back porch, only 20 feet from the extender, where the signal is worse now than when I was using a little white netgear 300 extender. My laptop and printer in the same room as my router are getting worse reception and speeds from the router than my other devices are getting from the extender even though they are farther away from the extender. Can't figure that one out.

We only use steaming services for TV and movies, and some online gaming. Our internet was inconsistent on our main level, and streaming devices were constantly buffering on our bottom floor. What really caught my eye during the review was the feature "TRI-BAND" and the different things that were accomplished by the AC3000. Setup was very easy (about 10 minutes tops) and I set it up in the location of My choice and what a surprise My whole house was getting a signal even in spots that were NOT GETTING a signal now we are using smart-phones, televisions etc, etc without losing brand-width and, life is great My grand-kids are happy & since they are happy then I'm happy. I run this with a night hawk router.when I first set it up, it automatically combined both networks on the extender on initial set up and I had to manually set up the 2.4 and 5 networks. Other then that, it's been great.

Tri-Band allows for a dedicated 5g backhaul(communication between router and extender) that makes it so your not sharing a band that could be free for devices. Through put is incredible and I even used it as an access point and was even better! I only switched back because the mesh was so good and the speed difference was minimal. Also the handoff between devices in mesh mode was very fast and smooth! Highly recommended

We tried Google WiFi, Orbi mesh system and other netgear extenders.If you are running Nest cameras with Google Home and other smart devices, the X6S is gonna work great!

The modem is on the 4th floor of one wing. using a Nighthawk X10 combined with a Nighthawk X6S range extender we have full home coverage that extends to some cameras and sensors outside the house. I previously had an extender that changed the name of the extended wifi network id, and it became a problem with devices that "roamed" the house. This extender uses the same name that you establish from your router, and allows seamless connection. wherever you may "roam". Easy installation with the WPS function. Great product and highly recommend.

The signal is much stronger than my AT&T router, and now I have a good signal throughout the entire house, and even out to the sidewalk and backyard fence. I love how it allows you to rename it, or keep the original router name if you desire. I keep the original router downstairs where the signal comes in, so the router doesn't extend well throughout the entire house. The extender is upstairs in the middle of the house, about 50 feet away, so now I have a great wifi signal everywhere. I set my devices to forget the router, so they latch on to the mesh extender only. I am able to wire four devices in the room where the extender is with gigabit speeds, as well as the router downstairs. There is no apparent loss in speed. I love this product!

There hasn't been any difference in the rest of the house (it's a big house). The main floor and 2nd floor seem to be about the same as they were before installing the extender.

In my configuration I have a Nighthawk X10 router in the basement with this mesh extender upstairs. It has 4 worked ethernet ports so it gives you the opportunity to give your devices a wired connection. Also uses the same SSID so you can have a seamless transition from your rout to your extender without having to change to a new SSID. Very glad that Netgear made this device.

The EX8000 is an excellent addition to the Netgear lineup!It was relatively easy to set up; I contacted support for the optimal settings for my R8500 router and now it is working great. No more changing WIFI networks when I move around the house!I highly recommend this device if you currently have a high end router, to get great speeds and mesh networking.

As my device technology has improved, so have the requirements for a clear, strong and reliable Wi-Fi signal. Now, I have great connectivity and in some cases, was better off connecting the camera with the EX8000 instead of the Ring Chime Pro.

It was an easy setup via the app, and once turned on, I had 5g connection immediately. It is nice that I have fast wireless wherever I am in the house. I even get it when I go outside to get my mail. I recommend this product, it will do as advertised.

Given my office was in a distant part of the house I needed a solution to not only increase the range of the standard provider router, but speed as well. After looking for all possible options, I chose a upper priced equipment to not settle for less. I was fully satisfied with the results. The Netgear EX8000 exceeded my expectations and is making my work from home and WiFi devices faster and more connected that before.

The Nighthawk X6S AC3000 doubled the signal strength! The set up was easy and we were in business within 30 minutes. I also plugged a few devices and they perform like they were connected by wire to the router! Consider the purchase necessary for future scaling. It's worth it!

Previous models were good, but still experienced some pixilation/jitter/freezing when streaming Bluray from a media server. Recently upgraded router to R9000 using this A7000 adaptor and finally have the performance I was looking for. All good.

I connected my desktop via Ethernet to it which did the trick. However installing it was a pain. I had to reinstall it a couple times as the speeds were really slow. After playing with the settings for a bit I finally managed to get propper speeds.

While they cover my house well, and are fine for stationary devices, they don't work well for any device you move frequently. When your device switches extenders, you show connected, but don't have any access for a while. I recently switched them back to use different names due to constant problems with our smartphones.

The router is in the basement and sometime the performance of my Ring Door Bell wasn't the best, taking 15 or so seconds to connect, plus I had buffering when watching movies from my AppleTV on our outdoor theater in the back yard. Now the Ring answers instantly and the movies work great.

I am very happy with the extension and the seamless connection. I still do not have signal inside my barn which is down a hill so I am going to see what I need to add to get coverage downhill. Overall very happy with the coverage.

As instructed, you need to be close to your base router when setting up. Once I followed the directions, setup was a snap. I have it in my media room and it is rock solid when playing movies, games, or just surfing the web. Bonus is that it covers our outside patio area, so no more cursing at low signals and slow internet. Wonderful product!!!

Seems like the mesh technology isn't perfectly adept at handling that jump. Fortunately, Netgear tech support has been very responsive, and is working with me to resolve the issue.

The MESH setup simplified my network, now I only have two signals instead of my previous 5. The Nighthawk provides a much stronger signal than the old extenders. I really like being able to set it up such that it uses the same identifier name so that I don't have to switch my wi-fi connection on phone as I move thru my house. Setup was quick and easy, although I'm sure there are some advanced features I should look at in more detail to figure out how to best use them.

When updated, process was easy to synch with my wireless router in the den, and then placed the Nighthawk in an optimum position two rooms away. The AC3000 has has solved all of our signal challenges. We now have the same strong SSID signal throughout the house and no longer have to login to a separate SSID...works great!

Kept saying it couldnt find my wifi network. After 2 hrs i gave up and just called customer service. His setup instructions was totally different then the app and the box instructions said to do. Customer service was great. He had answer to all issue that was accruing and finally got the extender set up in about 40 min. Other than that it works great thus far. Hope it remains that way.

My ring doorbell didn't pick it up, also with my Alexa Echo keeps going off line even after I've set it up four times. If I can't figure it out will contact.

The router I have is awesome, but could not reach the 3rd floor with enough signal to run HD movies for the internet. I picked this extender up and placed it on the second floor and now I can stream movies, use my laptop, and the kids have their phones running all at the same time on third floor. Great signal and range. Glad to have found it. Very easy set up and works well with 5G.

The unit was easy enough to set-up and though I ran into some minor difficulties during the process, the instructions had a back-up process that worked perfectly. The mesh network once established, worked like a charm. I can start out in one side of the house, then move upstairs and to the other part of the house without any loss of connectivity. I can literally watch my WiFi signal start to drop and then jump to full signal when it changes to the WiFi extender Where I used to have one bar, I now have 4! Life is good.

It is nice to have one Wifi network name instead of the wifi Extender name. I'll update my review after a longer time with it. It is a solid WiFi Extender for your WiFi Router.

I had settled on another extender from another manufacturer (that I was generally happy with) however I still had to acquiesce to placing it in a less preferred location. The Nighthawk X6S resolved that compromise in rapid fashion as it now resides in a location where all other options have gone to die. Set up was easy even though I used web access rather than other alternatives and literally the user interface is so intuitive I had no need to refer to the clearly laid out quick start instructions other than getting the correct address. My choice is to use the extender with a separate SSID although for many users the ability to mask it under the host SSID will no doubt be a major convenience.

Extender install would have been effortless if I had followed my usual procedure, and ignored the directions! However, the directions indicated the only way to use the wired ports was in the wireless access point configuration, the set up of which was not easy. After 3 hrs of not-fun, I set both up as extenders, found the wired ports worked just fine, and all is well. I have had some issues with dropped connections in a week of use, but connectivity over the house has dramatically improved.

It was a little trickier to set up than it needed to be when not using WPS since I tried via wi-fi but it timed out about half way through the process and needed to use an ethernet cable to finish the setup.

I bought this meshed WiFi Extender, connected to her WiFi network and it works PERFECTLY! I now get full WiFi signal within my living space and can surf the internet, make WiFi calls from my iPhone, and can now work remote with my employer when needed.

The Nighthawk was super easy to set up, maybe 15min, basically plug-n-play. As soon as I set the Nighthawk up and put it directly next to my TV and was able to hardwire my internet connect directly from the Nighthawk to the TV and BOOM, TV internet connect fixed. Also, hardwired my PS4 to the Nighthawk for better connection too. Very pleased and would recommend.

Before install I would have decreased speeds as I got further from the router. With the mesh I will randomly lose connection. The 2.4 is decent but the drops are crazy on the 5.0! I needed to configure things 1st at the router, then work my way out to each box using the smartphone app. Was able to turn on the smart connections, so now my whole family and all my wifi devices know to connect to just one wifi name and let the smart connection feature bind me to the best access point all throughout my home, a two-story with basement. Much nicer to maintain, thanks Netgear

The NG Extender is stating not the correct firmware for this product.

So far, I have had this model for 2 months now and its interactive app and speed has been great. I usually get 40-ish mbs and with the EX8000 has upped that to 116 mbs and it has been great so far, good product and I would recommend.

The ethernet ports are very helpful, although it can take a few minutes after the device connects to the router initially for it to be stable; after that, it runs better than I could imagine.

So I ran a Cat5 cable to the other end of my house and it works great as an access point. I have a nighthawk R7000 on the left side of my house and now the nighthawk X6S on the right side of my house. The internet provider I have gives me 300up/10down so that really 326/13 hardwired to the modem and I'm getting 295/12 wirelessly in my house and still getting 5ghz WiFi all around my house as well.

The Nighthawk X6S is one of those rare devices. I have a nighthawk router and its wifi range didn't quite reach the furthest rooms of my home. After purchasing the Nighthawk extender and going through the effortless setup prompts, I had full wifi coverage throughout my home and my wireless devices seamlessly transition between the two. Also, the wired connections use virtualized ports which require that any static addresses connected to the port be mapped outside the DHCP range. I've always had issues with disconnected devices or loss of connection between the extender and main router with most extenders (including Netgear's own EX7000). However, the EX8000 seems to be one of the best ones so far without any connection issues as well as what seems to be the most capability in terms of a mesh network in a high performance package.

Adding the Netgear Extender made the difference. We placed it behind some books in a bookcase behind some books and it worked great. Not one to enjoy all the blinking lights showing from all the different devices we have nowadays, this device was easy to hide without any noticeable loss of strength.

I have an older home, not IT functional, so everything is a little struggle, I added a brand name outdoor camera to the back of the house, signal was not very good. Installed this Mesh extender, everything WIFI on the far side of house benefited from this easy to install hardware item. It gave me an extra 100 feet distance. When I found out that you could add multiple extenders, I purchased another one so I could extend my WiFi to my back yard. It was easy to set up and comes with Android apps that are great for WiFi setup and analysis.

It was built with only one Ethernet connection in a bedroom upstairs, and with a gigabit connection and a $300 router, I wasn’t able to get faster then 12mbps in my living room. Now I’m running 320-450mbps everywhere downstairs as well as in the front and back yard. Awesome product, would definitely recommend.
